1. Conditions for early application for national pension
The condition for receiving the national pension is that the period of subscription to the national pension is at least 10 years, there is no income, and it is possible to receive it when you reach a certain age. However, since it is possible to apply for early retirement of the national pension by 5 years, it is possible to receive the pension earlier than the original pension age.

<The age at which you can receive the national pension>

The age at which you can receive the National Pension (old-age pension) depends on your year of birth. For example, if I was born in 58, I can receive old-age pension at the age of 62, but since I can apply for an early pension up to 5 years earlier, I can receive an early pension from the age of 57. If you were born in 1962, you can receive the original old-age pension from the age of 63, and the early national pension from the age of 58.

Year of Birth 1953~1956 1957~1960 1961~1964 1965~1968 Born in 1969 or later
Original National Pension Age 61 62 63 64 65
Age at which an early pension can be claimed 56 years 57 years 58 years 59 years 60 years old
However, if you apply earlier than the age at which you are supposed to receive the national pension, you will receive a smaller amount than the original national pension.

2. Recipient amount by age when applying for national pension early
For example, if I was born in 1969, the original age to receive the national pension is 65 years old. Let’s assume that a 65-year-old receives a monthly pension of 1 million won. The earlier I apply for each year, the less I receive by 6%. If you applied at the age of 64 to receive the national pension one year earlier, you can receive only 94% of the original amount of the national pension, but you will receive 940,000 won per month. If you apply two years earlier and receive the national pension early at the age of 63, you will receive 880,000 won, or 88% of the original national pension.

Assuming that the person was born in 1969, the amount of national pension benefits (Unit: KRW) Payment rate
Assuming that the national pension at the age of 65 is 1,000,000 100% of 1,000,000 won
National Pension 64-year-old Receipt Amount 940,000 94% When applying 1 year earlier
National Pension 63 years of age Received amount 880,000 88% When applying as early as 2 years
National Pension 62 years of age Received amount 820,000 82% When applying as early as 3 years
Receipt of National Pension at age 61 760,000 76% 4 years early application
National Pension 60 years of age Received amount 700,000 70% 5 years early application
Therefore, you should apply early, considering your circumstances and the amount of pension you will receive.

<Old-age pension claim receipt>

If you apply 1 year earlier than the age at which you actually receive the pension, the rate of early pension receipt is 94%. Since there is a spouse and mother who do not receive a pension, an additional 21,810 won of pension for dependents was also paid.

Through the old-age pension bill, you can find out the amount of pension you have paid so far and the amount of pension you can receive each month, and it also calculates and informs you when the total amount of pension benefits exceeds the total amount of premiums paid. The national pension payment date is the 25th of every month (if it is a Saturday or public holiday, the payment is made on the previous day), and you can receive it until the month you die. The national pension is increased in January of each year based on the inflation rate of the previous year.

About six weeks after receiving the old-age pension claim receipt, you will receive an early pension payment decision notice from the National Pension Service. If you receive the document by mail, you can find out the exact payment amount and the start year and month of early pension payment.

4. Notes on early receipt of national pension
(Since the standards for monthly income and receipt may change every year, additional confirmation is required with the National Pension Service.)
1) Subject to National Pension Taxation (Comprehensive Tax on National Pension): If the amount received from the national pension for one year is more than 3.5 million won and other income is generated, it is subject to the comprehensive income tax report in May of the following year. In this case, by the end of May every year, you can file a comprehensive income report at the local tax office or on the website of the National Tax Service.

2) If your monthly income exceeds KRW 3,383,000 during the period of early receipt of the national pension (the exact amount needs to be reconfirmed every year), the early payment of the national pension will be suspended. If monthly income exceeds KRW 3,383,000 for 3 months, pension payment is suspended for 3 months. At this time, if you report that you have earned income to the National Pension Service, it will be suspended, and if you do not report it, it will be refunded in the following year.

3) When you receive a pension from the age of 62 to 67, if you have a separate income other than the pension, you are subject to global income tax reporting.

4) If your spouse is not eligible for the national pension, you will receive 21,810 won for dependents’ pension, but if your spouse also receives the national pension, you will not receive the dependent’s pension.

5) Daily workers are not obliged to pay tax, such as a global income tax report, even if they receive additional income other than the amount of early pension. (Daily workers are those who have not been employed by the same employer for more than one year / Classified as full-time workers if they have worked with the same employer for more than one year)

6) Just as it is possible to apply for the national pension early, it is also possible to apply for the postponement of the national pension. If you receive the national pension after applying for a postponement of the national pension, you can receive an additional 7.2% per year (0.6% per month).
