4. Taking the national exam
Nine caregiver qualification test centers across the country run by the Korea Health and Medical Personnel Examination Institute conduct certification tests.
If you get 60 points or more in each of the first period written and second period practical skills, you will pass.
The exam is a multiple-choice five-choice test.
From 2023, the computer test (CBT) will be introduced and will be conducted in parallel with the written test.

Caregiver Qualifications

There are no age or educational background restrictions, and anyone can obtain a license.

1. Caregiver training hours (training completion hours)

In general, it takes about 1 month for the daytime class and 2 months for the evening class based on theory and practice.

1) Practical skills, practice exemption and reduction
license holder
If you work as a holder of a national qualification (license) in a nursing facility for the elderly, a welfare facility for the elderly at home, a long-term care transfer, or a home-based long-term care institution, and your experience is recognized as 1200 hours or more per year, you will be exempted from the entire on-site training.

General: 50% reduction of practical skills and practice hours each

Those who have worked for 1,200 hours or more in a nursing home for the elderly and a welfare facility for the elderly at home separately for one year are exempted from the entire training session.

2. Caregiver training courses and training costs

The range of educational expenses designated by the National Health Insurance Corporation is 550,000 won to 700,000 won.

There is a difference in training costs depending on the training course within the designated range at the Caregiver Training Center. The curriculum includes a new class, a class for experienced students, and a class for those with national qualifications (licenses).

In the case of experienced caregivers, if you have more than 1 year (1200 hours) of nursing experience, practice and practice hours are reduced.
